Mataram-  Celebrating Our Languages

A cultural programme ‘ Mataram’  to celebrate  Mother Languages was organized on 22 February. The  programme presented performances based on the  languages spoken in South Asia and South Africa. Indian community associations based in South Africa participated in the programme with great enthusiasm and presented songs and poems in Bengali,Malyalam, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Marathi, and Gujrati languages. Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam dance performances were also presented. Students from a South African School recited poems in South African languages and gave a dance performance. The event was attended by more than 150 people from Indian and South African communities and  Diplomatic corps.
